Maria & Steve - Barras Art & Design Wedding, Scotland

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

Doctors Maria and Steve may have met amid the havoc of the hospital wards, but their venue took them right back to an altogether more romantic beginning: their first date at the Barras Art and Design Centre. (Indeed, one of the photos they had me take was a recreation of that very evening!) Set in the heart of The Barras - a major street market in Glasgow's East End, originating from a time when traders sold their wares from handcarts (or barrows) - they married under the vaulted glass ceiling in a beautiful joining of families, cultures, and - of course - this incredible couple.

The evening was a vibrant mix of live music provided by the groom himself and a select number of assembled guests, an impromptu Britney Spears performance, surprise cameos from the cast of Black Panther, and - just to round things off - a limbo competition right in the middle of the dance floor!

It's always an honour to document such an important milestone in a couple's journey, but I was especially touched by the card I received once Maria and Steve had seen their images: "We absolutely love them. You've captured the atmosphere of the event so beautifully. Very creative and sensitive - a true artist!" It's always my aim to capture the feeling of the day so that couples can relive it through their photographs, and I was very moved that they reached out to tell me exactly that!
